Kent’s game with Yorkshire finished as a draw after the final day was completely rained off at Canterbury.

After heavy overnight rain, the umpires saw conditions as unplayable and play being abandoned over an hour before it was even due to start.

Kent will still take 10 points from the draw, with visitors Yorkshire taking 7, and the home side can still be pleased with a number of stand-out performances from certain players throughout the match – Brendan Nash’s unbeaten 132, Geraint Jones’ wonderful 47 on day two, and Matt Coles picking up another four wickets to put more weight behind his growing reputation.

When these teams met in the opening game of the season, the match result was similar, with Yorkshire again seemingly being saved by the weather in a contest which Kent looked like they may have been able to win.

Kent’s next county championship game will be away at Chelmsford to face Essex, starting May 9, but before that, they face Oxford MCCU in a University match from May 2 to May 4, and then take on Yorkshire at Headingley in their first Clydesdale Bank 40 match of the season on Sunday May 6.

Their next game at home will be a championship match against Northamptonshire at Canterbury starting May 16.

Final result: Kent 350-9 (Nash 132*, Jones 47, Bresnan 3-89) drew with Yorkshire 247 all out (Ballance 38, Bresnan 33, Coles 4-70, Stevens 2-39). Kent 10 pts, Yorks 7 pts.
